Edith Holland Dickerson and George Dickerson papers, 1880-1985.

The collection contains the papers of Edith Holland Dickerson and George Dickerson, including correspondence, photographs, financial records, and diaries. The diaries document Edith Holland Dickerson's life as a young woman in Atlantic City, New Jersey in 1925 and 1927. The 1925 diary in particular documents Edith's work as secretary to Thomas Montgomery Gregory, African American playwright and educator. Also included in the collection are letters to Edith Holland Dickerson from Dr. Albert Forsythe, who was one of the first African American pilots to complete a cross country flight. Forsythe was also involved in training the Tuskegee Airmen during World War Two. The letters document Forsythe's "Pan-American goodwill flight" from New Jersey to the Caribbean in 1934, as well as his time in Tuskegee, Alabama. The collection also contains love letters between Edith Holland Dickerson and George Dickerson.

George Dickerson (1910-2010), African American educator, was a principal at Madison Avenue School in Atlantic City, New Jersey. He met Edith Holland (1907-1988) while she was working as a secretary in his office. The two married in the mid-1940s.
